How to Setup MailChimp AutoResponder to Build Email List

MailChimp email autoresponder used widely with free newsletter broadcast options. We can send 12000 emails per month. The signup for the mail chimp account is free. Email list support is useful new feature in Web Form builder of the MailChimp account.

When we setup an email list, we can use on MailChimp form to collect information from people and these information can be used on a newsletter or other email campaign. Especially these will be useful while sending email broadcasting with personalization of the message. We can also use aweber AutoResponder to collect email list.

MailChimp provides easy ways to create email campaign o collect email list with some special purpose. Also we can use MailChimp autoresponder service in membership sites setup and autoresponder integration and list building during the product launch funnel processes.

Setup the Mailing Lists in MailChimp account

If you already have MailChimp account login with the username and password, otherwise we need to have an account with the mail service of MailChimp for mailing list support to work. Fortunately, it’s free, and it will only take a few moments to signup.

Once you have finished the signup process, MailChimp will direct the page called “Get Started with MailChimp in 3 Simple Steps”.  These steps will guide us to create new mailing list campaign and new web form creation and publish the web form in landing pages or in the website.

The three steps as follows

  • Sign in to the MailChimp account, and start following along here.
  •  Look for the Create Campaign button, mouse hover over it, and choose “regular campaign”.
  • Click on Create A List in MailChimp.

Fill out the list name this will be used for the future reference of processing the mailing list in MailChimp account, a default from name used to collect the email from the peoples by placing the form in landing pages or in websites.

A default reply-to email this will used to receive the replay email in case if any subscriber want to contact the mailing list and a reminder of how people signed up for your list. Enter any other information asked in this page and finally click Save to finish the process.

Click on the “Autoresponders” tab then click “add autoresponder” to add an autoresponder for the list you just created.

If the list you just created is not pre-selected, choose it from the “send to which list?” select box.

In the send settings, type in ‘1’ and select ‘days’, ‘after’, and ‘signup’ in the next three select boxes.

Lastly, set the autoresponder name to “automated email” and click “save”.

We can use the quick autoresponder after the signup process finished. The smallest amount of time we can set for a MailChimp autoresponder is a day.

If the autoresponders are not immediate after the signup, we need to remember two things.

First, it is not a good idea to use MailChimp if you need to send immediate and/or timely emails with email autoresponder integration.

Secondly, when you are configuring automated email delays in MailChimp mailing list, we need to account for this additional day delay. That means you need to subtract one from the delays we configured  in the autoresponder email setup. Example enter 2 days for a three day delay, 13 days for a two week delay, etc.

Next, click on the name of the autoresponder “automated email” to create the email that choose the email list we want to sent the autoresponder emails.

Click on “send to entire list” and fill in the details of the email only if we don’t want the defaults setting of the emails.  Example if we want the email broadcasting to be from a different address we can use different emails during the configuration

Click on “next” link and don’t click “save & exit” because you need to choose a template before finishing this autoresponder setup in the MailChimp account.

MailChimp account has different templates we can choose anyone of the templates we would like to use for this email broadcast.

When we are finished choosing and/or editing the template that we would like to use in email, now click “next” to preview the plain-text version of the template inside the MailChimp account.

That’s all now click “next” again it will bring us to the final step for this autoresponder setup in MailChimp. If there is any error during the setup just follow the instructions listed to resolve that issue.

Click “save & exit” to finish the autoresponder setup in MailChimp list campaign.

To create another list and setup asuo responder email for the list repeat the above steps once again for the new mailing list created in MailChimp.

Choosing the list in dropdown of the MailChimp is important for the autoresponder email setup for the corresponding mailing list.

After finishing up setup the autoresponder email for different lists example, we will have four separate lists, with each list having a single autoresponder just setup the above procedure.

Important details about MailChimp Integration

As mentioned above, MailChimp autoresponders are not immediate and take up to a day to send an email. That means that it isn’t the best idea to use MailChimp for immediate and/or timely emails.

In the example we just walked through, this is an issue for both the first and second emails. The first signup email is supposed to be sent immediately after a user registers, but it really won’t get sent until the day after he or she registers. Similarly, the second email should be sent a few hours after the user registers, but won’t really get sent till two days later.

If this is a problem, you have a couple options. The first option is to consider using Campaign Monitor instead of MailChimp, since Campaign Monitor’s autoresponders react much more quickly.

The second option is to simply avoid sending any timely emails. You can still use automated emails to send any non-timely emails. So we can avoid the emails delay that occurs on delays greater than a day, but we can send emails manually to the entire user immediately.

Create MailChimp form for email lists

MailChimp offers form builder to create or edit the signup form in the MailChimp account. We can create sign up forms or widget forms in the MailChimp list.

The MailChimp widget form  are reusable blocks of HTML, CSS, Javascript or a form that you can place on several landing pages and website sidebars at the same time. These Widgets are “global,” so if we modify any change in one widget form it will affect all the widget forms which are placed in different location of landing page and website.

For example, if you have an HTML widget on 4 different landing pages, changing the code in your HTML widget will change the code on all four landing pages. No need to modify the code in every single widget so based on the application we can used this feature.

Once we have added the editable region in the landing page template now we are ready to create a widget form in MailChimp account.

MailChimp widget forms have the option to choose from three widget types: Custom HTML, Custom CSS, YouTube and Form Builder. Choose the one you want to use in your template. Add the content to the Widget and Save.

When we select a widget type, a new window will appear where we can drop in your HTML, CSS, YouTube information or configure the form. Once you do this, save your widget to see it applied to your landing page.

Form builder lets you quickly and easily create functional forms on your website that integrate with the landing page, Sales force and the email service providers. We can add and remove form fields in a way with the form builder options

We can use drag and drop options to setup form fields in the form builder to organize the fields.  Now you can start adding more fields to the web form which is used to collect email from the people.

By default, Form Builder starts with name, email fields with a submit button on the form along the chosen template. We can start adding additional fields by choosing the appropriate field type in the form builder.

Single Line Text – A single-line input box

Textarea –  A multi-line input box

Dropdown – A dropdown for selecting one option out of many

Checkboxes – Selectable boxes (can choose more than one)

Hidden Field – Input box not shown to the visitor, usually given a predefined value

Email Field – Single-line input box that validates for proper email addresses

Phone Field – Single-line input box that validates for valid phone number

And etc.

Give your Form a Name and click on “Done” and save the form now it is ready to use in the landing pages.

Once you build the form now you need to get the embed code for this Go to forms in the email list move on to the share it tab in the create forms section.

Now click on button create html code for the form you will see three options below

  • Supper slim form
  • Classic form
  • Naked form

Supper slim for option has only email address so we should avoid this we need to choose either classic for or naked form.  Classic for has javascript to load the form so better to use the naked form to add form in wordpress websites.

Once you have selected the classic form we have option to choose all form fields but by default it has three fields. If you have chosen all fields the designed form fields in the previous step will be shown here.

Now click create embed code button at the bottom we html embed code in the prompt box just copy the embed code form the box and paste it in wordpress website sidebar widgets or OptimizePress squeeze page, also make sure that all the codes has selected before copy he html code.
