Membership Content Delivery
Depending on our setup, we may want to graduate our members from one membership level to the next membership level. For example, members start at ‘Module 1’and after 30 days they are automatically upgraded to ‘Module 2’. That’s what the concept of content delivery system used in the subscription based membership site.
We have used three different content delivery systems for different membership levels of the membership site. These three systems are explained below
- Sequential content delivery system
- Incremental content delivery system
- Drip content delivery system
Any one of these three content delivery systems has been used in every membership site software and plugins. Example Wishlist Member Plugin uses Sequential content delivery for its membership level upgrade. aMember uses Incremental content delivery system for its membership level/product setup.
And finally Drip content delivery used in magic Members WordPress membership plugin for subscription based membership content upgrade. All the three methods has same concept of upgrading membership content to the next membership level.
The Sequential content Delivery System that the Wishlist Member WordPress plugin provides should be considered important part of the content delivery mechanism in membership site setup. In Many cases this type of content delivery is effective in membership content management.
In case if we are unfamiliar with this feature; Let me explain this feature basically allows us to Drip feed content over a specified period of time from initial membership level to the next level of membership area.
For example, If we create some content for the Month 1 subscription named as silver first month. Anytime that someone becomes a member of silver first moth, they start out only getting access to the Month 1 content of silver membership level.
If we don’t considered the Sequential content delivery system feature, then we could be losing the value of our membership site. We will see the Sequential content delivery mechanism in membership site content management using Wishlist Member Plugin in upcoming articles. Now lets see about Incremental content delivery used in aMember membership management software.
Incremental content delivery system is having the same concept of Sequential content delivery in membership content management. aMember uses this feature to update membership content to the next level of monthly subscription membership.
Consider the same example mentioned above as If we create content for the Month 1 subscription named as silver first month. Anytime that someone becomes a member of silver first moth, they start out only getting access to the Month 1 content of silver membership level. In the second Month we need to upgrade their membership only if they are active and paid for the second month silver membership level.
Also we need to update them to the next membership level after one month from the date of the subscription for the initial membership subscription every member has different date of subscription we need to upgrade them in different time.
Incremental content delivery is the special feature of aMember used to solve the above situation in different membership levels/Product. However, the Incremental content delivery feature in aMember allows the access to content like pages, posts, categories to be based on the number of days since the start of a subscription for the particular membership level/product.
Incremental content delivery has different advantages over the various membership levels in aMember here I have listed three important benefits of aMember content management and delivery below.
- Slicing the prelaunch content membership levels
- Increase the lifetime of the membership levels
- Increases the initial Conversion in Memberships levels
Slicing the pre launch content membership levels
One of the biggest benefits of Incremental content delivery system in aMember is that it limits the amount of content that we need before the launch of membership site product. So it will be useful when we trying to provide different content over different subscription period of the membership site.
Technically, we only need the first few days’ worth of content inside the membership site to launch, however it is recommended to have a month or two month content already loaded in over content management area of the membership site.
In the end, we only need to create the membership content that is one month ahead of our longest member of a particular membership level. If our oldest member leaves after 1 year (lifetime of the membership levels) and the next older member has only been around for 8 months, then we don’t need to create any content for several months. Incremental content delivery makes them to get all the content.
The Incremental content delivery method will increase the lifetime of the particular membership level /product. In almost every membership format, providing content sequentially will improve the average amount of time that a member remains a member.
If we give all the membership content to them immediately once they have logged into the membership area, then there is a good chance that some members will signup for first month and then cancel once they have downloaded all the content. So we need to have multiple month of content delivery to increase the lifetime of the membership level.
When the members want to know what else has been added, they can simply logged into same membership area but now they have access for the second month subscription. If they don’t have second month subscription their membership will not be immediately cancelled.
They will remain in the first month of content access level until the limited period of time. During this period aMember offers the membership expiration message to the members. They will be active member for the membership level but not for the second month contents.
Secondly this feature can increase the lifetime of the membership so that we can monitor when most member leave from the membership area. If they are all leaving 6 months in, then we can probably infer that the content for the 6th month should be modified to maintain the members to the long period.
By Drip feeding the content, we can more effectively identify what content is the most effective and less effective cont of the membership site. From this experiment we can provide the better content for the member. We know nothing is perfect at any time.
The third benefit of the Incremental content delivery is that it can be a good model to improve our initial conversions. This can be done in many ways. The first one once a member signed up to the particular membership level immediately they will get to the more advanced content.
The second one, we can offer the first month as a bonus or offer for members. So the subscribed members can have both month 1 and month 2 content immediately once they logged in to the membership area.
Actually we are providing one month content for free to make more conversion in initially using Incremental content delivery in aMember. Finally, we can create a premium membership tier that gets access to everything at the time of subscription. An important note is that this membership tier should only have one or two payment options yearly or lifetime otherwise it will become more difficult for conversion.
There are a growing number of benefits to using the Incremental content delivery system used in the aMember. The key point of this article is that we try to use this Incremental content delivery feature at the maximum level.
The benefits of the Incremental content delivery should varied based on the niche here we have some different niche concept examples for the membership content creations.
The second one is the completely different from the first one the University of Makeup offers their members a ton of videos to help them learn how to apply makeup easily to the different parts of the human body.
It has complete content delivery in video format. In this membership site the Non-members are able to get a sneak peak at their video collection, while members have full access to the all of the videos related the makeup and particular membership level.
In the example, someone market their expertise to make money we can also expertise in some niches start a plan to create membership site with your area of specialization. Few more examples niches are given below for more clarity.
- A carpenter can provide members exclusive access to woodworking plans as well as insight to the tools and its usages inside the membership area.
- A cooking person can give members access to videos on how to prepare simple meals for families or parties etc.
- A graphic designer can give members access to a variety of methods used for the better quality graphics for use in print, on the web, and in multimedia mediums.
We can setup Incremental content delivery for different niches and utilize this feature of aMember to the most to setup good membership content management.
This part of the article discuss about content delivery setup inside the aMember software we will assumes that we have already have a page, post, or category with a product/Membership level or product category added have access granted for the particular membership level/product.

When a product/Membership level or product category requirement is added to Membership content, the start and end times of the subscription for the membership level. By default, based on the product’s configuration settings in aMember the Incremental delivery feature allows the access to pages, posts, categories to be based on the number of days since the start of a subscription.
aMember provides options to setup start and end time of membership level. This will define wether the product/membership level have monthly subscription or weekly subscription.
The current aMember file protection feature has limited file upload size explained in the content protection in aMember article. Once we have added and protected content using Content protection options in the left side of the aMembber dashboard (Product–>content protection–>New record).
In this setup page we can add, Protect and grant access for the membership content for particular membership level of product.
Now add product category using the dropdown in the same page. ‘Select an item in the’ drop down menu, the menu will open up to display all previously defined membership products/Membership levels and categories.
Once we have chosen the product, product category now we need to have options to setup start and expiration time for the product/membership level in aMember.
The default start and end values of product/membership level expiration defined in the product configuration page Now we can setup the new values by editing the start and end time.
Now click on the down arrow at ‘Start’ then Click on ‘-th day’. This will allow us to enter the number of days since the subscription began to allow access to this protected content for the corresponding product/membership level.
Click on the down arrow at ‘Expiration’ then Click on ‘-th day’. This will allow us to enter the number of days since the subscription began to end access to this protected content for the corresponding product/membership level.
After these configurations the ‘Education Area’ we have in the same page. This means a user with an active subscription to ‘Educator Area’ will be able to access this page from the 1st to the 10th day from the start of the subscription.
This technique can be used to incrementally deliver any number of content in membership level in a very easily. The number of days from the beginning of subscription to start time and end time of the membership expiration should be defined for each content item added in a particular membership level using Incremental content delivery.
