Content protection for the membership site needs software to protect content and grant access for particular group of members. We need to protect all the contents inside the membership site and provide access for the certain level of content based on the subscription by the customers.
We have already explained about content protection and member’s management by Wishlist Member plugin. Wishlist is another membership site plugin for WordPress. This article describes about the membership content protection and access using aMember membership software.

Now lets move on to content protection by aMember membership software.
Based on our system goals and requirements we need to have different types of membership content formats. It may be text, image or video type of content. We can use best WordPress theme to deliver any type of content in the WordPress membership content.

Now come to the content protection we have three different content format these formats may deliver to the customers one among the below list.

AMember membership software can protect folders, files, pages, videos and links with different kind of protection. So we can protect any type of content by aMember software. Now we will see each category protection settings one by one.
The folder protection option in aMember used to protect folder from member who have the intention to modify the folder content. Follow the below steps to protect a folder in aMember.
How to protect a folder in aMember
Login to the aMember admin panel, in the left had menu we have products tab under the products tab we have protect content options to protect any contents by aMember software.
Now click on ’Protect Content’ options on the left side navigation menu of the aMember admin. It will direct a page which has the links to protect folder, files etc.
Just click on the ‘folders’ button at the top of the page now the folder protection setup page will be displayed. To protect folder we need to click on the ‘New record’ tab just below the folder button.
Once we have clicked the new recode page you will have the folder protection settings just like the below image.
In the ‘Title’ field, enter a name for the folder which we need to protect. This is the name will be used for the identification for the admin only. We can use the Browse button next to the ‘Path to folder’ we can choose a folder within the domain for protection. If you have selected the folder the path will be added in the box. In the ‘Folder URL’ field, enter the web address in which our folder located in our domain.
We can choose the ’Protection Method’ is pre-populated as ‘new-rewrite’. It is the only protection method available for folders. Now we have protected the folder from the non members. Now we are ready to give access to the particular membership subscription to the folder.
We know we have created different membership levels in the new product creation described in the second part of this series. Each membership level has separate product in aMember. To grant access to particular level we have option in the dropdown here.
In the dropdown we can select the product and click on the ‘make access free’ link available near by the dropdown box.
For example if we have chosen a product for accessing the folder then only the members belongs to the particular product will have access for the protected folder. Once we have selected a particular product it will be displayed below the dropdown with ‘x’ mark.
We can add more products to give access for the same folder the entire selected folder listed below the dropdown with ‘x’ mark. We can also remove a particular selected product by clicking ‘x’ nearby the product. Now finally save the settings we have successfully protected folder and grant access for the particular level of members using aMember.
Once we have protected the folder it will be listed in the folders page of the ‘protect content ‘link. We can edit the folder protection settings later or we can remove the folder protection for all members by deleting the folder. If we want to remove the folder protection to the particular level of member we can remove it by editing the settings. Next we will move on to file protection in aMember. Get aMember membership software now.
The file protection in aMember needs currently current the file should be uploaded within the domain we have used for the aMember for setup membership site content protection. So if we need to protect large size files we need more bandwidth in our server to protect files. We can protect image files and auto files using this option in aMember.
The maximum allowable file size to be uploaded for protection by the aMember is 10 MB. If we have the file more than 10MB will not be uploaded to the server for aMember protection. For podcasting site we can have number of audio file we can protect those file easily using aMember content protection software.
The file protection settings will be explained below. Now login to the aMember admin panel, in the left had menu we have products tab under the products tab we have protect content options to protect any contents by aMember software.

Just click on the ‘files’ button at the top of the page now the file protection setup page will be displayed. To protect files we need to click on the ‘New record’ tab in the top of the page. The file protection settings in aMember shown in the below image,
To upload a file from your local computer or Laptop by using the file upload feature for the protection. The size should be less than 10MB. Or we can use another option to find the file for protection. For example we have already uploaded file in the server now no need to upload it again. Just browse the file path using the alternate option in the aMember settings.
Once we have added file to the aMember file protection page. Now enter the file name for future admin reference it will not display to the members. We can add description also. We can have the options to hide the protected files link in the member area. That’s all we have protected the file using aMember.
To grant access for the protected file we need to use the same procedure mentioned for the folder protection. Just select the products we need to grant access for protected files using the dropdown box in the bottom of the page.
Once we have selected the product which are listed below the dropdown, now we can click on ‘make access free’ link in the page to grant access to the particular product and finally save the settings. We have protected all the files we have the list of protected files. Here we can edit or delete the file protection in future.
aMember allows to protect pages inside the membership site so that those pages are only available to the subscribers of a particular product or level. Member who hav not subscribed to the product will not able to see the pages form the membership site.
Not only WordPress page we can able to protect html pages using aMember membership software. The page protection setting in aMember has explained below.
Once we have logged in to the aMember admin go to Productsà protect contentà here we have the button pages at the top of the page just click on ‘pages’ button and then click on ‘new record’ link available in the same page. it will direct the page protection settings page of aMember which is shown in the below screen shot.
Here we have the ’Title’ and description about the page for the future reference by the admin. In the ‘display inside layout’ field it will display the pages using the current WordPress them used in the membership site setup.
We can setup the page content using the text editor here we can format the page text and images using the options in the text editor. We can grant access to the pages using the similar ways in the folder protection and file protection methods.
Finally save the settings. Once we have saved we have list of pages protected by the aMember we can modify the pages protection in future using the edit link and remove the protection by using the delete option for the pages.
The video file protection will not be available in all membership site plugin and software. We need to use amazon s3 for media file protection. But aMember membership software comes up with media file protection like videos, audio and etc.
To protect video file we need to setup the video player in order to play the protected video file in the video player. We can use flow player for paying the protected video inside the membership site. Flow player has better quality and also player customization option available with the player settings.
Flow player for video protection in membership site
The aMember video protection requires the installation of Flowplayer on the domain we need to setup membership site. We can download free version of flow player for the membership site setup. Go to the Flowplayer download page – and download either the free or paid version.
Extract the downloaded .zip file and look for the files. Rename this file ‘flowplayer.controls.swf’ to ‘flowplayer.swf’ and upload the file in the path http://yoursite.com/aMember/application/default/views/public/js/flowplayer/flowplayer.swf .
And also upload ‘flowplayer.js’ to the same path mentioned above. Now we can use the flow player to play the video inside the membership site.
Once we have logged in to the aMember admin go to Productsà protect contentà here we have the button ‘videos’ at the top of the page just click on ‘Videos’ button and then click on ‘new record’ link available in the same page. It will direct the page protection settings page of aMember which is shown in the below screen shot.
We can find the video file path in two ways one is upload directly from the computer or we can browse the video file from the server if we have already uploaded in the membership site server.
Once we have found the video file path now we can add ‘Title and description’ for the video file protection for the future reference by the admin. Also we have the option to hide the protected video file inside the membership site from the non-members.
The permission to grant access to the subscribed membership level will be chosen as same as the folder protection and file protection. Finally save the options. We have list of video files protected by the aMember software. We can modify it in future by editing the settings.
We can use the flow player embed code to display the video inside the membership site we can get the flow player embed code in the player downloaded site. That’s all about the content protection in aMember. We can protect folders, files, videos, pages and links inside the membership site using aMember.
